ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology deals with concepts of developing new drugs or formulations derived from biologic origin particularly by the engineering of genome of mammalian cell or microbial cell. Department include subjects like Pharmaceutical Microbiology for II/IV B.Pharm (3rd semester) , Pharmaceutical Biotechnology for III/IV B.Pharm(6th semester) and pharmaceutical microbiology for II/VI Pharm D students.

Pharmaceutical biotechnology Overview

Pharmaceutical biotechnology is a new and upcoming field which includes the principles of biotechnology that are applied to the development of drugs. A plethora of therapeutic drugs in the current market are bioformulations, such as antibodies, nucleic acid products and vaccines. Such bioformulations are developed via several stages that include: understanding the principles underlying health and disease, the fundamental molecular mechanisms governing the function of related biomolecules, synthesis and purification of the molecules, determining the product shelf life, stability, toxicity and immunogenicity, drug delivery systems, patenting and clinical trials. Pass in the following examinations

B.Pharm Degree examinations in an Indian University established by law in India from an institution approved by PCI and has scored not less than 55% of maximum marks (aggregate of 4 years B.Pharm). Every student, selected for admission to post graduate pharmacy program in any PCI approved institution should have obtained registration with the State Pharmacy Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of his/her admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled.
Selection Criteria Through Merit and written test/ personal interview.

Indian Students : INR Rs. 2, 60,150/- ( I Year) and Rs 2, 56,150/- (II Year)
NRI Candidates : USD 10,820/-

After successful completion of PG in Pharmaceutical analysis, The graduates will be placed in

Research institutes as project assistants or research fellows.
Absorbed in pharmaceutical industries in AR&D.
In Quality control department of pharma industries.
